The Ragtrader trade report and Time Out Melbourne confirm the Melbourne Road site, vacant for more than a decade, will host Victoria’s first regional Savers in over 20 years. Donations collected from 27 July will fund Diabetes Victoria programs after Savers purchases the stock from the charity partner.

What opens on 27 July

Savers calls the pre-store intake a Community Donation Centre. Locals can bring clothing, homewares, and other reusable goods that meet quality standards. Savers pays Diabetes Victoria for donated inventory, with the charity using proceeds for research, support services, and community programs across Victoria.

Diabetes Victoria CEO Glen Noonan told Ragtrader Geelong is community-minded and many local families are affected by diabetes. The donation window lets residents stock shelves before the public retail opening.

Petbarn is also slated for a neighbouring tenancy in the revitalised landmark, though op shop shoppers will notice the Savers footprint first.

What the August superstore promises

Time Out reported the 2,300sqm store will receive thousands of fresh donations daily once trading begins 27 August. Savers told media most items average under $10 across categories, spanning vintage fashion, designer accessories, books, and furniture.

Ragtrader noted Savers has paid more than $20 million to Australian not-for-profit partners over five financial years to FY25, while diverting around ten million kilograms of reusable goods from landfill annually across its network.

For-profit Savers differs from Salvos or Vinnies charity retail, but the Diabetes Victoria partnership still ties local shopping to a health cause.
