Op Shop Opening Hours: Check Shopping, Donations and Holidays

Op shop opening hours vary by branch, day and service. Use the individual charity’s current notice to confirm the visit you want to make. Shopping hours, donation receiving and furniture collection are separate checks. There is no dependable national opening or closing time to apply to every Australian op shop.

Check the branch rather than a national average
Start with a shop’s street address in our op-shop directory, then follow the operator’s own listing. For chains, the Salvos Stores finder and Vinnies shop finder help you reach the relevant branch. Check the date and any temporary notice as well as the weekly hours.
A map result may display an old timetable or warn that holiday hours differ. If the trip depends on one shop being open, phone rather than treating that warning as confirmation. Record the closing time as carefully as the opening time, particularly when you need to try on clothing or arrange transport for a purchase.
Cup Day, Tuesday 3 November 2026
Melbourne Cup Day changes the question from “What are Tuesday’s hours?” to “What has this branch announced for 3 November?” Vinnies Victoria’s dated Cup Day notice includes shops with reduced hours and shops that are closed. Check its current heading and your branch row.
The holiday has regional substitutions in parts of Victoria; a council name alone may not identify the area covered. Our public-holiday guide explains the 2026 date and confirmed examples. An alternative local holiday does not guarantee normal shop hours on Cup Day.

Fit the route to the time available
Pick one area and two or three realistic stops. Check their overlapping hours, then work back from the first closing time. Include time to walk or travel between them, inspect the goods and get purchases home. A store that closes later is a possible final stop only if its location and stock suit your trip.
If access or crowded aisles affect your visit, ask the branch about entry, fitting rooms and periods it recommends. “Weekday” does not prove “quiet”, and opening time does not guarantee newly stocked racks. See choosing a shopping day for a stock-and-sale checklist.
Confirm donation receiving separately
Tell the branch what you want to donate and ask where and when it can accept it. Do not assume donations close a fixed number of minutes before the shop, or that a rear loading area is open whenever the front door is. Furniture, electrical goods and large loads can require an arrangement.
If you also plan to shop, make that clear when asking about access. Keep declined items and goods brought after receiving has closed with you. For preparation and alternatives, use our guide to donating goods.
What if the website and the door notice disagree?
Ask the operator to resolve the discrepancy before another special trip. A current temporary notice at the branch can explain a closure that a directory has not yet reflected. If you cannot reach anyone, an old weekly listing is not enough to promise the shop will be open.
Keep your route flexible and avoid filling the car with donations until receiving is confirmed. For a holiday visit, save the dated notice and recheck it on the day; for an ordinary visit, check the branch’s current weekly schedule and temporary announcements.
